Description of T7

The T7 is a solid-state absolute inclinometer that detects tilt angles over a full 360° range in a single axis. The T7 incorporates several advances to create a new type of inclinometer that is rugged, compact, fast, flexible and easy to use.

The T7 is available in several interface and protocol options. The physical interface can be RS232 or RS485. The protocol can be US Digital serial or Modbus RTU. The RS232 version supports a single T7 with up to 30 meters of cable. For users requiring longer cable lengths or multiple T7s on a single bus, the RS485 version supports up to 32 T7s on the bus. Power for each T7 is supplied through the mains cable.

The Modbus RTU version is suitable for users who require an open industry standard protocol. The host can access each T7 on the bus using standard Modbus read/write register function codes.

The T7 calculates the tilt angle by detecting acceleration from solid-state accelerometers integrated on a monolithic chip. Gravity, centrifugal forces and linear velocity changes are forms of acceleration. The T7 will report the mathematically calculated tilt angle based on all detected accelerations.

The serial port interface provides an efficient way to read and write data on a T7 network. All settings and parameters are stored in non-volatile memory. A Windows demo application is provided to display angles and temperature and set operating modes, orientation, zero position, average damping time, direction and more for each T7 in the network. In addition, a Windows DLL provides the user with a set of simple functions to read and write data on a T7 network.

Typical applications include heavy construction equipment, dredging machinery, mining equipment, solar tracking and warehouse automation.

A2T Description

The A2T is a single-axis digital gravity angle sensor. Serves as a programmable level with 360° full range absolute tilt detection with digital or analog output. Internally, a rotating bar-coded disk is mounted on a gravity-driven weighted wheel. A microcontroller turns on an LED to transfer the barcode image to a linear optical array that decodes the tilt angle.

Magnetic damping provides fast response and settling time. An internal EEPROM stores field programmable parameters such as resolution, zero position, change of direction and mode.

The A2T communicates over an RS485-style serial bus using US Digital’s SEI (Serial Encoder Interface), which allows simple, fast and convenient networking of multiple SEI devices on a single network. PLCs, motion controllers and computers can also reside on the SEI bus using US Digital’s SEI to USB interface device.

The A2T is also available with an optional analog output. The analog output option provides a maximum voltage range of 0 to 4,095 volts with 12-bit resolution. The output voltage can be scaled by simple SEI commands to provide user-defined voltage ranges. By factory default, the analog output voltage is set to a range of 0 to 3.599 VDC. Note that with the A2T analog output option, only one device can reside on an SEI bus.

Typical applications include heavy construction equipment, dredging machinery, mining equipment, solar tracking and warehouse automation.
