OIL ANALYSIS
Why is Oil Analysis important?
As a predictive maintenance tool, oil analysis is used to discover, isolate and offer solutions to abnormal lubricant (health, contamination) and machine conditions (wear).
Frequently, maintenance departments are not getting the maximum value from their lubricants. This is due to unsatisfactory lubricant application and maintenance practice in machinery.
A successful oil analysis plan depends on good analysis of wear particles and contaminants.
What tests do we do on the lubricant?
- Kinematic viscosity at 40ºC
- Spectroscopy
- Acid Number
- Wear metals
- Additive metals
- Counting of suspended solid particles
- Contamination metals
- Oxidation
- Water content
- PQI
- Resins/varnishes
- Insoluble in pentane/toluene
- Foams
- Disemulsion
- Others
